All Aboard!

Historic Red Caboose serves up breakfast and lunch to locals and tourist alike.

If you drive through Blaine you can't miss it! Sitting along Peace Portal Drive in Blaine, this bright red caboose definitely stands out amid storefronts overlooking Drayton Harbor and Semiahmoo Bay. Having served in the heyday of the Great Northern Railroad that merged into the Burlington Railroad in the 70's, this little red caboose's interior sets the mood of a bygone era. The "cupola" or crows nest, sheds light on the café's tables set along the interior windows. Outside a custom wrap around deck allows outdoor dining overlooking Blaine Marina and Drayton Harbor.

Having been vacant for sometime, café owners Joyce Guimond and Yolanda Calderon decided that this little red caboose could be the perfect spot for locals and visitors to come and relax. Serving breakfast and lunch the Great Northern Café is open five days a week 8 am to 3 pm, being closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The Great Northern Café is available for private parties or meetings. Just call Joyce or Yolanda at (360) 332-1900 for all the details.

Great Local Treats Served
The café serves delicious baked goods made fresh from Café Avelino in Bellingham. They also proudly serve Moka Joe, organic, fair-trade coffee out of Bellingham and serve up a refreshing Mexican popsicle called paletas made in Lynden. They serve the usual hot and cold-blended drinks and have a drink called the Choo-Choo Steamer made with steamed milk mixed with your favorite flavor. Lunch includes a menu of the "Conductor's Favorite" (Italian or German sausage on a bun) for $3.50 (try grilled onion and peppers on this for an additional 75¢, it's yummy!). And for the kid's there is the "Caboose Dog" for just a buck! Of course there is more to the Great Northern Cafe's menu, but you'll have to stop by and check it out for yourself. Enjoy!

For more information, call the Great Northern Café at 332-1900.
