Valentine's Day Chocolate Cherry Torte
By: News Canada

(NC)- Sweet cherry filling nestled in layers of moist chocolate cake and dollops of whipped cream to top it off--it'll be the crowning glory to your dinner.

Hands-On Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Servings: Makes 12 to 16 servings.

You Will Need:

The Ingredients:

1 pkg Duncan Hines Moist Deluxe Devil's Food Cake Mix

1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling

1/4 tsp almond extract

1 (8 oz) container frozen non-dairy whipped topping, thawed

1/4 cup toasted sliced almonds, for garnish

Baking Instructions:

1. Line the inside of a microwave-safe bowl or a silicone bundt pan with approx 1/3 can of Duncan Hines Chocolate Frosting.

2. Prepare cake according to package directions and pour into prepared bowl. Bake in microwave for 8-10 minutes. As microwaves vary, test for doneness after 8 minutes continuing to bake if needed. Allow cake to cool completely before assembling.

3. Combine cherry pie filling and almond extract in small bowl. Stir until blended.

4. To assemble, slice cake horizontally to create two layers. Place one cake layer on serving plate. Spread with 1 cup whipped topping, then half the cherry pie filling mixture. Top with second layer. Spread remaining pie filling to within 1 1/2-inches of cake edge. Decorate cake edge with remaining whipped topping. Garnish as desired.

Makes 12 to 16 servings.
