New Dakota Creek Wine Releases 2009

2007 Dakota Creek Firefighter Red Blend
This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah with just a touch of Petit Verdot and Malbec.  On the palate you will note the black cherry and ripe raspberries nicely framed by smooth polished tannins and a generous fresh berry finish.  As a tribute to the men and women who protect our homes and businesses, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of our Firefighter Red will be donated to Whatcom County Volunteer Firefighters.  Available April 11th, 2009 at CJ Wijn’s Sneak Peek in Birch Bay.

2007 Dakota Creek Jill’s Blend
This layered blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec has an earthy chocolate nose, rich tannins and bold flavors of berries and white pepper on the palate followed by a pleasant blueberry finish.  It was aged in a combination of American and French oak which accents its wonderful natural complexity.  This a limited edition wine that is only available at the winery.  Available May 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2009 at Dakota Creek Winery’s Spring Release Weekend.

2007 Dakota Creek Merlot
Our 2007 Merlot is bold, yet well balanced, showing complex aromas of bell pepper and cherries with just a hint of cinnamon.  Its fresh acidity evolves into a smooth palate with layers of berries, leather and spice on the palate with a crisp cherry finish. We gave the berries extra hang-time in order to develop the ultimate ‘jamminess’ of flavors. This Merlot was aged in a combination of French Oak and American Oak to further its complexity and enhance its tannins.  Available April 11th, 2009 at CJ Wijn’s Sneak Peek

2007 Dakota Creek Syrah
This ruby-red Syrah has a clean blueberry nose with hints of freshly mown hay.  On the palate it has a dry, warm, fresh acidity, and a balanced body with smooth woody tannins.  The integration of oak is complemented by flavors of cherry, currant, slight cocoa and mild black pepper.  These flavors hold throughout a long pleasing finish.  Available May 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2009 at Dakota Creek Winery’s Spring Release Weekend.

2008 Dakota Creek Viognier
The micro-climate on the sunny slopes of Elephant Mountain south of Yakima, WA provides the perfect ‘terroir’ for this often difficult to grow grape. At Dakota Creek we meticulously transform hand-picked grapes into a rare wine having a complex orange blossom and ripe apricot bouquet.  This wine has a creamy mouth feel with layered flavors of tropical fruit. Available May 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2009 at Dakota Creek Winery’s Spring Release Weekend.

2008 Dakota Creek Pinot Gris
Our 2008 Pinot Gris is the debut vintage from new vines planted at Sugarloaf Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills AVA in eastern Washington.  It is a premium artisan wine that is crisp, light and well balanced with pronounced pear, apple, peach and citrus on the nose and palate and a soft lingering finish.  Available April 11th, 2009 at CJ Wijn’s Sneak Peek in Birch Bay.

2007 Dakota Creek Chardonnay
The grapes for this vintage were selected from old vines on the sunny slopes high above the Columbia River. The wine was fermented in American Oak Barrels and aged in French Oak barrels. Its mild oak flavor does not overpower its native complexity. The lack of malolactic fermentation is notable by its crisp lightness and fresh predominance of citrus fruit.  .    Available May 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2009 at Dakota Creek Winery’s Spring Release Weekend.

2008 Dakota Creek Unoaked Chardonnay
The Chardonnay grapes for this crispy ‘Sunshine Wine” were fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel tanks. This departure from the tradition of oak-aging showcases the varietal intensity and natural character of the grape and allows its fruitiness to predominate from the nose through the palate and into a long pleasing finish. Available May 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2009 at Dakota Creek Winery’s Spring Release Weekend.

2007 Dakota Creek Cabernet Sauvignon
The long sunny days and cool nights in the Columbia Valley set the stage for these grapes to develop into a bold full-bodied wine with hearty tannins. Cellar aging in a combination of American and French oak enhanced the layers of berries and spice on the palate and the robust bouquet. Available in June 2009 at Dakota Creek Winery

2008 Dakota Creek Fume’ Blanc
This off-dry Fume’ Blanc (also know as Sauvignon Blanc) is characterized by a tropical fruit salad aroma with delicate gooseberry flavors balanced by lavish acidity. This is another Dakota Creek Winery limited edition as less than 30 cases were produced. Available May 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2009 at Dakota Creek Winery’s Spring Release Weekend.

2008 Dakota Creek Petit Verdot
Elephant Mountain Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills in eastern Washington provides ‘terroir’ for this deeply pigmented and aromatic varietal. Our 2007 Petit Verdot has blackberry aromas with leather and rich plumb flavors, well-rounded tannins and a smooth finish.  It is full-bodied and rustic. Available to Wine Club Members in June 2009 at Dakota Creek Winery.

2008 Dakota Creek Malbec
The combination of perfect soil chemistry, hot summer temperatures and meticulous vine management at Elephant Mountain Vineyards resulted in grapes full of robust dark fruit flavors. Our 2007 Malbec is rustic, yet soft, with an earthy bouquet and a palate of currents and raspberries. Less than 30 cases of this limited edition wine were produced.  Available to Wine Club Members in June 2009 at Dakota Creek Winery
