Skylark’s Hidden Cafe & Wine Parlour of Fairhaven was honored with “Best of Show” at the Rotary 2006 Grape & Gourmet charity event on November 5th. The food and wine gala is sponsored annually by the Bellingham Rotary Club and held at the Best Western Lakeway Inn. Money raised goes to charities. The event was attended by hundreds of diners who sampled foods from local restaurants and dozens of wineries. The food competition was divided into two categories; hotel/casinos and stand alone restaurants. Skylark’s was chosen “Best of Show” for their “Bay Scallop Ceviche”, a chilled seafood dish traditionally from the coast of Mexico and South America. Don White, owner and chef at Skylark’s created this version as a summertime menu special.
Since enlarging and remodeling Skylark’s last year, White has focused on developing new and more sophisticated seafood meals and exotic cocktails and a more evening dinner environment, including entertainment in the lounge. The smaller cafe specialized primarily in lunches and breakfasts. He recently began wine tasting nights.
