Delicious Ideas for your Fourth of July Celebration
by Jacob Smithston

The 4th of July is a day for enjoying the outdoors and enjoying great food while you celebrate all the things that make the United States a great place to live. Traditional cookouts usually involve a grill and your favorite foods, like hamburgers and hot dogs. No Fourth of July celebration would be complete without some form of baked beans. While there are many baked beans recipes to choose from, traditional homemade is the way to go.

If you are looking for a definite southern recipe try Cowboy beans. Originally, a Texas recipe this can give a definite southern feel to your Fourth of July celebration.

Here is one way to make amazing Cowboy beans.

The first thing is ingredients you will need for a basic recipe more or less can be made depending on the amount of people you will be serving.

1 lb dried pinto beans

8 cups water

2 cups of brisket ends burnt or grilled steak burnt ends

1- 14oz can whole tomatoes

1 large chopped onion

1-cup barbecue sauce

6 minced cloves garlic

3 jalapeno peppers seeded and chopped – optional

2-tablespoon chili powder

1-tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1-teaspoon salt

1-teaspoon ground cumin

To prepare first wash the beans and place into a saucepan or Dutch oven, add everything except for the salt, bring it to a boil while continuously stirring, reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours. Make sure to keep the pot covered and stir occasionally during the cooking process to bring up beans from the bottom. Add the salt after beans have been cooking for at least 1 hour.

This will make a wonderful addition to your or any Fourth of July cookout menu.
